Joy Liu is a contemporary painter based in the East Yorkshire countryside. Working primarily in acrylic on wood panel, she combines the sensitivity and restraint of Chinese painting with Western approaches to colour, texture and light. Her paintings focus on horses, sheep and the quiet rhythms of village life, capturing moments that are often overlooked. Beginning from direct observation, each work is gradually transformed through layered colour and expressive brushwork, allowing memory and atmosphere to become as important as the subject itself. Through her practice, Joy seeks to preserve the stillness, gentleness and emotional resonance of the Yorkshire landscape she now calls home.
