After Hull College of Art, Richard specialised in watercolours and sold his first painting in 1965. He has tutored, demonstrated for art societies, and contributed to artists' magazines as well as exhibiting throughout Yorkshire and also London (Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters and the House of Commons with the Yorkshire Watercolour Society). Latterly he now works in oils with the Yorkshire Wolds as a major source of inspiration. His motto is "I paint as I please," but commissions are always welcomed.
