Solo exhibition by ERA artist Heather Burton at Pocklington Arts Centre.
The paintings in this exhibition are inspired by travels around the UK in a campervan. Heather’s work, often large-scale and all done with knives, rather than brushes, includes a range of subjects from northern landscapes to musicians and horses – all inspired by observations from life on the road.
“We spend a lot of time exploring the less travelled roads of the UK and Scotland and no routes are ever the same,” Heather says. “The weather and landscape can change in seconds and it’s always a challenge to capture those brief moments. What I’m always trying to capture, both in landscape and figurative pieces, is that sweet spot of movement, light and atmosphere.”
Heather’s art career took off around 10 years ago after winning a number of awards for her work. She gradually swapped life as a journalist, when she spent more than 40 years writing for regional and national magazines and newspapers, for life as an artist and is now represented by a number of galleries in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lincolnshire. She also runs workshops for art groups across the north of England.
The exhibition runs until 23rd November 2024, and all work will be for sale.
